Good post. On the clean-up theme, always make your bed as soon as possible after you get up. You get some neatness points right away and when you get home the place looks good.
Abso-bloody-lutely this. Realising this two years ago was a game changer for me. I drilled it, plus opening windows and shaking out the bedding and cushions near them into my morning routine, and a massive increase in freshness, happiness and living quality ensued.
And the only reason why our generation didn't automatically grow up learning these tricks... well, I'd like to hear why from others, but in our family's case our mum did all these tasks for us, generally when we weren't around, never called attention to it, never taught us or told us about it, and then when we turned into teenagers just screamed at us for not knowing what to do, how to do it or why it must be done.
In a more traditional household, dad would have stepped in sooner on this, but dad buggered off when I was 7. So basically all this suffering - of cluttered, messy, untidy homes and ill-exercise - is another downstream consequence of free divorce laws.
(btw, I tried to like your comment but Substack is being gay today and won't let me)
I am from an earlier generation. I had to make my bed and have my room straightened up before I left the house for school. I am sure at some point in childhood my mother showed how to do it. I did it by pure muscular reflex by the time I was a teenager. Pretty much have always done it. My parents were married for 59 years, until my Dad died at age 90. So, he was around. He did not need to step in on this. I generally have always liked to keep things neat.
Substack being "gay" is preventing me from liking your comment now.
Every generation has its challenges. No point in thinking about past generations. Play the cards you are holding and do your best. Try to pass it on better than you got it. The future is not yet written.
These are pretty great. It's always good to hear when somebody figured it out(kind of).
Good point with the leftist idolisation of mental illnesses. I bet you too heard enough excuses refering to them. "Sorry, you know I have ADHD." It somewhat goes into the question whether we have free will. I believe we have and it's also better for anyone to believe in it, but this won't help in believing it. I know that there are cases where it can't be helped, but the effects can always be mitigated. Routines and order kids. But if someone follows these advices, they will already get better.
I want to add some...many people won't have the capacity to put in extra money, so with that in focus.
Eat at regular times every day. It helps with your digestion. And also start to learn cooking. It's saving money and also gives you a sense of control. (And cut back on the slop)
If you can, have separate places for separate things. The bed is the place for sleeping, so you only want to sleep there. Same with working, eating, chilling, workout. And stop bringing the mobile into the bed with you!
Also if you can, move out from the (inner)city. You might think that you got accustomed to the noise, constant shaking of the earth etc., but it really helps. It's also almost alwaye cheaper and more spacious.
Wanted to say here to stop multitasking. Even if you can(mostly you can't) you want to leave that for extraordinary events(that's true for the others I guess).
...
Man...stop eating in front of the computer. I know you are looking out for the cleanliness–we all do– but it always ends the same way.
Wanted to add these because they are free/you save money. When I started to pull myself together, these helped me a lot.
Don't give fitness advice. It's so unbelievably accessible these days it should act as a kind of filter. If a guy reading your stack can't workout how to progress to some basically acceptable numbers (4pl8 dl, 3pl8 squat etc etc) fuck em.
I like the theme of the article but some of the stuff you get into is a bit doomsday prepper for me.
Like all doomsday prepping there’s a lot of good knowledge on making the most of the absurdities of the system, but it’s hard for people to take you seriously if the first thing they see is, “Hey guys The Oklahoma City Bombings Were a Hoax”.

Funny, isn't it, how that few minutes can shape the whole day?

I have no small envy for the well-reared generations. Folks who were raised well, and especially those with the wit to raise well in turn.

Don’t just be a solution: be a solution that’s also a problem for the OTHER guys.
Good actionable steps here. You love to see it. Live well and spite your enemies at the same time. It’s a win-win.

All of those things are areas of improvement in my life, so consider this a ringing endorsement for more "Bingo Bobbins fix your Noggins'" content

Maybe not the best opener for sure --- But after reading this you'll never look at the OKC event in the same light ever again.
